Weathered is an exploration of an industrial environment, where my home a Narrowboat was repaired and painted. The images I took of my family in overalls, inspires a utilitarian feel within visualisations of fashion garments and material choices.
I used materials such as plastic sheeting that I collected from the boat yard, as well as natural wools to add a soft texture to the harsh marks and colours. The marks came from large paintings and drawings I did in the dry dock with a large brush on the end of a broom.
The tar which coated the boat is a continued link throughout the work, it’s expressive marks and thick shine inspires the materials and techniques explored. My main focus for the project is recreating the marks and textures in my mark making through material exploration.
